Scottie Scheffler wins 20th PGA Tour title at The American Express, finishing four clear after final-round 66

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler secured his 20th PGA Tour title with a four-shot victory at The American Express on his first start of the 2026 season.

The American finished on 27 under par after a six-under 66 in the final round, with a double-bogey five at the par-three 17th after he found the water proving immaterial.

Scheffler, who began the day one shot behind 54-hole leader Si Woo Kim, registered nine birdies on Sunday, around that blunder on 17 and a dropped shot at two.

The 29-year-old joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to have 20 PGA Tour titles and four majors before turning 30, with this victory earning him lifetime membership on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler - who will be looking to complete the career Grand Slam at the US Open this summer after already winning the Masters (twice), PGA Championship and Open Championship - said after his win at the American Express: "I did a good job of staying patient and executing when I needed to. It was a really solid day.

"I always dreamed of being able to play on the PGA Tour and it's a blessing to be out here and compete. It's an even bigger blessing to be able to win some tournaments.

"There's always a certain amount of rust when it comes to playing competitive golf.

"You can simulate as best you can at home, but you can only get into the heat of the moment when you're posting a score and in contention at a tournament. It's nice to see some of the stuff that I've been working on has paid off."

Of Scheffler's 20 wins on the PGA Tour, nine of those have been by four shots or more.

There was a four-way tie for second with Jason Day, Andrew Putnam, Matt McCarty and Ryan Gerard all finishing on 23 under, a shot clear of Kim and Sam Stevens, with 18-year-old Blades Brown ending tied-18th on 19 under after a closing two-over 74.

Brown lit up the event on Friday with a 60 and was tied with Scheffler in second ahead of the final round, but recorded a double bogey and two bogeys on Sunday around two birdies as he faded, costing him a spot at the Farmers Insurance Open next week.

The teenager said of playing alongside Scheffler in the final group: "I get to play in a PGA Tour event and to play with Scheffler and see him win it, that was insane. I got some things I got to sharpen up, and hopefully we see if we can do what Scottie's doing.

"One of the coolest things I learned was how underrated Scheffler's short game is. To see it in person, to look at the trajectory, spin and control he has with his wedges and short game. Obviously, his putting is insane, too. I'm definitely going to go work on that."
