Six Nations trophy damaged by fire in vehicle incident and will be replaced for 2027 edition of tournament

The Six Nations championship trophy has sustained fire damage and will be replaced for 2027.

After the latest round of the tournament, the vehicle transporting the trophy was caught up in an incident. No one was injured but the trophy was so damaged that it cannot be fully restored.

A new replacement will be manufactured for next year's event.

The winners of this year's tournament will be presented with an identical exhibition trophy.

The current trophy, made out of silver, was created in 2015 to "reflect the tournament's evolution".

In a statement the Six Nations said: "A new trophy will be commissioned in the same design as the original, with materials from the original being incorporated into the new trophy, ensuring its history is respectfully transferred to the new creation.

"The new trophy will take approximately 365 hours of skilled craftsmanship to create, meaning it will be unveiled ahead of the 2027 championship."
